What I would like to know is , have any of you ever had anything like this, and does this stuff really work? Thanks for any input..
Omni Wifi Antennas on a Linksys? I'm moving into a new house soon, with a huge back yard, and I now have a dilemma with the wifi. I understand that if i link up a omni directional 15DBI antenna to the wireless router, it will boost the signal. Since a WRT54GL has two ports, one for tx and one for rx, theoretically, if i buy two 15dbi antennas, and put one on each, would it be able to transmit and receive? i am planning on using this network with regular laptops and iphones, no external or extra antennas on the client, would this be possible? any more information is helpful, thanks
How can a Wifi antenna booster increase the wireless connection performance? Hi, I have situation here where my laptop and the wifi router are separated with walls and cause the connection to fail. I am thinking of replacing the wireless router's antenna with an antenna booster, probably 10dBi. I believe this antenna will be able to penetrate the signal through the walls to my laptop. But I doubt that, will this antenna be able to receiver the returning signal from my laptop, if I don't do any upgrade to my laptop?

What's the strongest wifi antenna you can make yourself, or buy for cheap? I don't have much money, and I'm trying to improve the range of my wifi card as much as possible for picking up distant hotspots. I've tried many things already, I have a regular high gain 9 inch tall omnidirectional antenna for my laptop orinoco card, however what has been working much better is I have a USB dongle for my desktop, which I put inside a can. (I've tried arranging it many other ways, including installing it on a 3 foot satelite dish, and many other types of parabolic reflectors but nothing ever worked as good as the tin can. Surely I think their must be some better way to boost the signal even more than my homemade "cantenna" can. Perhaps is there some way to hook up some sort of amplifier to amplify the incoming/outgoing signal? Or any other ideas? Or maybe theres just a better card I should buy that's super high powered (hopefully not costing much though) Any ideas would be helpful.

Can I use BOTH the Built in WiFi of a notebook and a PCMCIA WiFi Card Together to increase connection speed? I have an IBM Thinkpad Z60m which has an interated built in WiFi antenna. I am current using it with a 802.11g connection with a 128bit WEP key protection. However I was given another Linksys 54G PCMCIA card today, I was able to install it successfully but both wireless connections seems to be on its own. Can I collaborate these 2 connections into one, and would that theortically means I could double the connection speed to 54Mbps x 2 = 108Mbps? I am using one router though, it is the Asus WL-530. Or would it be impossible, since the router will split the data into halves and sent 28Mbps to each of the two connections instead. If so is it possible to dedicate a particular task to a particular connection, such as Bittorrent to connection A and internet browsing/streaming to connection B? Thanks for reading and even bigger thanks for helping me out!!!
why doesn't my home made wifi antenna work? its sort of cheap, its a g, i stick it in the middle of my starchoice dish( which i drilled a hole through), i used a little bbowl wrapped in tin foil, and nothing. How can I boost my internal Wifi antenna? I have a newer Toshiba m115 series notebook w/ dually process - love it. I would like to BOOST my signal reception - any suggestions? can I use an inline amplifier with a 18dbi wifi antenna? I'm trying to pick up a wifi signal. I have a 14dbi antenna (30ft cable) and I get a signal, but it drops consistently. I purchased a 18dbi Yagi antenna and I hope that will work. But I want to know if I use a inline cable amplifier (around 200mW) if that adds to the antenna strength, or does it just amplifies what signal I lost in the 30ft of cable. My line of sight is not that clear (trees and branches) but I could probably trim some branches off. Will this help?
What is the best/strongest directional wifi antenna for under $50-100? I live just borderline on a hotspot, I've tried multiple purchased antennas, as well as many home made ones out of cans, bowls, parabolic reflectors, etc. Right now the very best I've found is putting a usb dongle inside of a soup can, (homemade cantenna) but even that is just not reliable. What is the best high power directional antenna I can buy for $50-$100? Possibly there may be one out there that is so strong that it just barely complies with fcc regulations?
About WiFi signal returning to antenna? So, If I'll buy abit more powerful WiFi antenna, which gets the signal further from the router, does that also mean I need to buy more powerful wireless network card to my laptop, to send the signal back to the antenna?
Will I get signal loss using a 10 foot wifi antenna extension cable? am I better off using a usb wifi + cable I have a wifi home network set up. two of the PCs (5 total) are getting poor reception. They are only 20 ft away from the router, but there is alot of interference from walls and such. the line of site for these gys are probably like 3-4 walls. I pull the router into a more direct line of site with the pcs and the two pcs to test it and the reults were better, but it is not a place I can normlly leave it. I am using a linksys 54G rev6 with high gain antennas I have thought of two solutions. buy extention cables for the adapter antennas (10') and move the antenna to the doors frams of the rooms. This would bring the antenna closer to the router, but I am think I will lose any gain in signal with the distance in the cable. the second idea is to buy a little usb wifi adaper and locate the actual adapter on the door frame using a 10' usb cable. Which would give me better results? The linksys i have does not allow the power to be tweaked with.
